Home Charging

Home chargers can be slow or fast charging but if having a professionally fitted charge point at home, typically a 7kW fast charger will be installed. Vehicles are usually parked overnight at home, enabling timed charging to take advantage of the off-peak electricity tariffs now increasingly offered by energy companies. This makes home charging a very cost-effective way to charge a vehicle.

Commercial Charging

Charging provision is now more commonly being introduced in sites such as workplaces and destination locations. Typically visits to these types of locations are longer than a brief stop so more time is available to charge vehicles, lending itself to the fast type of EV charging (7-22kW).

Typically fast AC charging. Up to 90 miles charging range per hour can be achieved depending on the vehicle. Charging at a workplace is not only convenient, for many EV drivers it is the only viable option to charge their vehicle if living in flats, rented accommodation or homes without off street parking.

Locations such as hotels, cinemas, shopping centres and gyms. Typically visits to these types of locations are longer than a brief stop so more time is available to charge vehicles, lending itself to the fast type of EV charging (7-22kW).

How Can We Help

The OZEV EV charger grant is ending for homeowners on March 31st 2022, which means time is running out to claim the £350 EV charger installation funding.

From April 2022, the EVHS will no longer be open to homeowners (including people with mortgages) who live in single-unit properties such as bungalows and detached, semi-detached or terraced housing.

Installations in single-unit properties need to be completed by 31 March 2022 and a claim submitted to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) by 30 April 2022.

The scheme will remain open to:

  • Homeowners who live in flats
  • People in rental accommodation (flats and single-use properties)

The idea is to remove a key barrier to EV uptake in densely populated urban areas.
Landlords will be able to make up to 200 applications for a maximum of £70,000 per year. Each property they apply for must have private parking, and there is no limit to how many chargers can be installed on a single property.
